Before you write

We cannot give a binding ruling on whether a particular item will clear a particular checkpoint — only the screening officer on the day can do that. What we can do is point you to the current rule and its primary source so you can pack with confidence. For urgent, trip-specific questions, contact your airline or the TSA directly.

Helpful things to include:

• The specific item or rule page you are writing about.
• If it is a correction, the primary source (TSA, FAA PackSafe, or the airline’s own page) that supports the change.
• The airline or destination country, if your question is about how they differ from the general TSA rule.
