About

Can I Fly With It is an independent, per-item reference for one question every traveler asks while packing: can I bring this in my carry-on, in my checked bag, or not at all — and why? We take one item at a time and give you the verdict first, then the reason behind it.

Why this site exists

The official TSA “What Can I Bring?” tool is authoritative but terse — a flat list that rarely explains the why, the carry-on-versus-checked split, or how a specific airline or destination country handles the same item. When you are standing over a half-packed bag holding a power bank, a razor, or a jar of jam, you need more than a one-word answer. This site gives one full page per item: the verdict, the rule behind it, the quantity and battery limits, packing tips, and the airline and international nuances the generic list skips.

How we source and date every page

  • Primary sources only. Rules are checked against the TSA “What Can I Bring?” guidance, FAA PackSafe, and individual airline baggage and restricted-items pages — not against other blogs.
  • Every page is dated. Each item and rule page carries a visible “last checked” date, because these rules genuinely change — lithium-battery and power-bank limits and liquid-scanner rules have all shifted recently.
  • We re-verify on a cadence. Fast-moving rules (batteries, liquids, vapes) are re-checked quarterly, and airline per-passenger caps are re-verified before we treat any number as fixed.

For the complete picture — the sources behind each verdict, our re-check cadence, and how we handle corrections — see our Editorial & Sourcing Policy.

One important caveat

We work hard to be accurate, but the officer at the checkpoint always has the final say. A screening officer can refuse any item at their discretion, even one that is generally allowed. Treat this site as careful preparation, not a guarantee — and when an item is borderline, the safest place for it is your checked bag or at home.
