Can I bring tweezers on a plane?

Yes — tweezers are allowed in both your carry-on and your checked bag, with no size or blade limit to worry about. There is no catch here. Pack them wherever is convenient.

Why people worry about this one

Tweezers get lumped in with “sharp objects,” and travelers who have watched a pocketknife or a full-size razor get confiscated assume tweezers are next. They are not. TSA’s “What Can I Bring?” entry lists tweezers as permitted in carry-on bags and checked bags — a plain green light on both counts.

Cosmetic tweezers, slanted brow tweezers, pointed-tip precision tweezers, splinter tweezers — the type doesn’t change the answer. They are simply not treated as a weapon or a restricted sharp. You can leave them in your toiletry kit and forget about them.

Carry-on is the smart choice

Since both bags are allowed, keep tweezers in your carry-on. They are small, easy to lose in a checked bag, and the kind of thing you actually reach for mid-trip — a splinter, a stray hair, a stuck SIM tray. There is no security reason to bury them in your hold luggage.

You don’t need to remove tweezers from your bag at the checkpoint or place them in a bin. They screen fine inside your toiletry pouch along with everything else.

If you pack them in checked baggage

No restriction, but the general sharp-objects courtesy applies: TSA notes that “any sharp objects in checked bags should be sheathed or securely wrapped to prevent injury to baggage handlers and inspectors.” For sharp pointed-tip tweezers, a small cap or a zip pouch is enough. Blunt slant-tip tweezers are a non-issue.

Don’t confuse tweezers with these

The confusion usually comes from neighboring items that do have limits. Keep them straight:

• Scissors — carry-on only if blades are under 4 inches from the pivot.
• Razor blades — loose double-edge blades are barred from carry-on and must be checked.
• Nail clippers — allowed in carry-on, like tweezers, despite the small file.

Tweezers sit firmly on the “allowed anywhere” side of that list.

The airline & international layer

US airlines defer to TSA on cabin screening, so tweezers are fine on American, Delta, United, Southwest and the rest — no airline runs its own tweezer rule. Internationally, tweezers are just as widely accepted: the UK, EU, Canada, and Australia all permit them in cabin baggage without a size limit. This is one of the few grooming tools with no meaningful cross-border wrinkle.

As always, the officer at the checkpoint has the final say on any item. For ordinary tweezers, a refusal would be extraordinary — but it is technically their call, not a guarantee we can make for them.
